The social heartbeat of commerce in Ghana.
Building the future of African e-commerce as a social quick-commerce platform.
Welcome to Shoppady. We are on a mission to make fashion shopping fun, quick, and secure for everyone in Africa by combining the best of social media and quick-commerce into one seamless app.
But to understand our vision for the future, you have to understand the hustle of our past. Our journey wasn't an overnight success; it was built on university campuses, in the heart of bustling markets, and through years of bootstrapping.
Our story begins in 2020 in the dorm rooms of the University of Ghana, Legon—specifically, Commonwealth Hall. Founders and roommates Hillarious Doe and Daniel Dornyo noticed a persistent problem: students needed a reliable way to buy discounted, back-to-school merchandise from local vendors, but the process was fragmented.
To solve this, we launched Nexotin, a website exclusively for students to find campus deals. We gained moderate traction, and after graduating in 2021, we were accepted into the MEST Africa Express accelerator program. We were full of hope, but the reality of the startup world hit hard: we failed to raise funding and struggled to grow.
We knew something was missing, and the only way to find it was to get into the trenches. In late 2022, CEO Hillarious Doe made a radical decision. To truly understand the market from both the buyer and seller perspectives, he went to Kantamantu—the beating heart of buying and selling in Accra—and rented a small shop.
For six months, Hillarious immersed himself in the daily grind of buying and selling shoes and clothing. That experience was a revelation. We saw firsthand how painful the entire system was, not just for students, but for everyone. We realized the problem was much bigger, the opportunity was vast, and the challenge was far more interesting. We decided to pivot from a campus-only platform to a solution for everyone.
By early 2023, our mission had expanded, and Yevoo Selasi joined the team as Co-Founder and CTO to help us execute it. We spent the next 12 months heads-down, designing and developing a completely new mobile app and website.
We launched the new Nexotin in February 2024. The response was encouraging—we saw genuine desire and loyalty from our repeat customers. However, behind the scenes, we were constantly running out of money. The entire project was funded out of pocket by the founders. We were bootstrapping, surviving on the sheer belief that we were building something people wanted.
Armed with the profound lessons learned from our users and our time in the market, we began working on a massive upgrade in mid-2025. We wanted to create an experience that truly encompassed everything shopping should be.
This led to our rebranding as Shoppady—designed to be a true "shopping pady" (friend) to our users. We streamlined the experience, merging what was previously a two-app system into one powerful, unified Shoppady app. Now, in 2026, we have successfully relaunched with a platform that redefines how Ghanaians shop.
